Work comment:
For a long time I have been interested in musical progressions that are commonly referred to as "nonlinear". Although music is tied to the irreversible linearity of time like hardly any other art, I imagine music that is less stringently developed, but rather works with mental leaps, cuts, collage processes, simultaneous copying of different processes, etc. For me, writers such as Jean Paul or ETA Hoffmann (especially his “contrapuntal” novel Kater Murr) are particularly important as role models for such “macropolyphonic” music.
Some of these methods are used in my ensemble piece, Broken Scene, for example, progressions of different speeds often appear at the same time, or the same musical forms are embedded in completely different contexts.
The new orchestral piece "Night Piece (Perforated Scene II)" transfers some of these procedures to the orchestra and brings an additional level into play: as indicated in the title, it is an imaginary night (garden?) scene in which again and again Music particles of different provenance are blown in and combine in a kind of dream image.
