My orchestral piece Abendempfindung was commissioned by the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe for their 350th anniversary in 2012.
But I resisted the desire for something solemn, fanfare-like. Instead, a soft horn chorale gives way to an initially slow, deliberate development that poses more questions than it answers. Finally, as if from afar, one hears something that sounds like fanfares, and Brahms' first symphony (which premiered in Karlsruhe) haunts the piece twice briefly.
Otherwise it's just a little flight of thoughts in the evening, no more, but also no less.
